This week the Nursery children have been celebrating Chinese New Year. They created dragons and lanterns. The children watched a DVD and learned about the different traditions linked with Chinese New Year. Making noodles was tremendous fun and eating them was even better. The children said they were ‘yummy, yummy in my tummy’ and ‘georgeous.’

Our special visitor, Santa, received a warm welcome from the children. The children sat patiently around the tree while Santa dipped into his sack and pulled out a present for each child. Finally, we sang Jingle Bells with Santa and his Elf. Here are some pictures for you to enjoy.

The children have been really busy getting ready for Christmas. They all had an opportunity to make Christmas stockings, glittery crackers, shimmering snowflakes, Christmas trees and a calendar for the year ahead.
If that wasn’t enough, they had to make party hats and decorate their fairy cakes in time for the Christmas party (this was the messy fun bit!). After all that, they could finally enjoy themselves on the dance floor. Look at the pictures and see that you think – don’t forget to leave your comments.

The nursery children were thrilled to be invited up to the hall to join the Reception class and Key Stage 1 classes for the Eid assembly.
The children sat really well throughout the assembly and enjoyed watching the dancing and listening to the songs. They then came back downstairs to the nursery where they worked their way around the special Eid activities set up for them involving mehndi patterns using paint, making necklaces, eid cards, collages and decorating cakes. At the end of all that they chilled out with some dances of their own. Take a look at the pictures and share some of the fun they had.

I am sure your children will have told you about our special visits in nursery. The Dental Play Box team came along to tell us all about how to look after our teeth. We learned all about cleaning our teeth properly, the things we need to avoid eating and the things that are good for our teeth. The team brought Connie along who demonstrated good brushing with her gigantic toothbrush.
Finally, the children dressed up as a dentist, dental nurse, patient and dental surgeon. We have been left with a great Dental Play Box to explore over the next week. Take a look at some of our pictures from the visit.

Dear Parent/Carer
Welcome to Plymouth Grove Nursery.
For some children coming to nursery is the first experience of being away from their parents/carers. Our priority is to ensure that your child settles happily into nursery as quickly as possible. There is no fixed time for this as all children are different. We therefore hope that you will be patient and supportive during this initial settling in period.
As this is the start of the new year we will be learning about sharing and co-operating with each other as well as establishing our routines of the day and becoming familiar with the new environment.
The topic we will be learning about this half-term is entitled ‘Ourselves/Where I live’. Within this topic we will learn about my body, my likes and dislikes, family and who lives in my home.
QUICK REMINDERS
Snack money – As soon as your child starts to attend full time you will need to pay snack money, which is 50p a week.
Labelling clothes – Please ensure your child has a spare set of clothes in nursery. These should be in a labelled carrier bag. All school uniform items must also be clearly labelled.
Collecting Children at Hometime – If your child is going to be collected by a different family member/friend you MUST inform the nursery staff either in the morning or by telephone before the end of the school day.
If you need to clarify/discuss any of the points raised in this letter please do not hesitate to speak to the nursery staff.
Once again, we hope your child will enjoy their time with us over the coming year.
Thank you for all your support
The Nursery Team

Sports Day finally arrived – although, we did have our doubts in the morning. The weather started off mild, then became windy and finally started to rain – but that didn’t stop us! Both children and parents still had a great time.
All the children took part in welly throwing, egg and spoon race and the bean bag challenge. They even managed to stop and smile for the cameras. After all that excitement they sat down to a refreshing ice lolly. Here are some pictures, let us have your comments.

What a wonderful day the children had. The weather was marvellous and the children thoroughly enjoyed their time at the farm.
Firstly, we went to see the small animals and had an opportunity to see the hens, ducklings, rabbits and guinea pigs. Most children were brave enough to stroke them, but a few just watched closely. We then moved on to see the large animals. We saw the pigs, donkeys and cows. We were even lucky enough to see the 2 day old baby calf, which the children loved. We saw alpacas who had interesting names – I wonder if your children can remember their names?
Finally, each child was given a bucket full of carrots which they fed to the animals – the children didn’t want to stop! Take a look at our pictures and let us have your comments.

We’ve been busy getting ready for Easter.
Don’t forget to send a decorated egg into school for the competition on Thursday.
Potatoe printed chick cards – what a great way to create an Easter card. What do you think?
